Job Description

Weekend Pastry Assistant (Entry-Level)
Bloomsday Café & Loretta’s Café

We’re in an exciting period of growth and are focused on strengthening the core of our operation—our pastry team. This role is designed for someone eager to learn, contribute, and build a strong foundation in baking while supporting the day-to-day success of a collaborative kitchen.

Bloomsday Café and Loretta’s Café are neighborhood Philadelphia spots known for thoughtful food, warm hospitality, and a strong sense of community. Our shared bakery program focuses on seasonal ingredients and well-crafted pastries and breads for both cafés.

Position Overview:
We’re looking for a part-time, entry-level Pastry Assistant to join our weekend team. This is a foundational role focused on dishwashing, kitchen organization, and setting up the space for a successful morning bake.

You’ll work closely with our lead baker, making sure the kitchen is clean, stocked, and ready—playing a key role in helping the team execute the daily bake-off.

Schedule:

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (required)
  • 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Typical Shift Flow:

  • 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Dishwashing and kitchen reset
  • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Preparing pastry rings, cups, and basic setup tasks
  • 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Assisting with late-morning production and baking
  • 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Kitchen maintenance, cleaning, and setup for next day’s bake

What You’ll Do:

  • Wash dishes consistently and maintain a clean, organized kitchen (primary responsibility)
  • Set up and break down the kitchen before and after service
  • Keep tools, equipment, and workstations clean, stocked, and ready for use
  • Support the lead baker with small, detail-oriented tasks during production
  • Assist with basic pastry finishing and prep as needed
  • Help maintain an efficient, smooth kitchen flow throughout the shift

What We’re Looking For:

  • Willingness to start with foundational kitchen work and grow from there
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Reliability and comfort with early mornings
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Interest in developing skills in a professional kitchen over time

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to get their foot in the door, learn how a bakery operates from the ground up, and grow into a larger role over time.

If you’re excited to work hard, learn, and be part of a team, we’d love to hear from you.
