Job Description

Labeling Compliance Specialist

Naperville, IL | $70,000-$85,000 Salary plus amazing benefits

Schedule: 100% Onsite | Monday–Friday

About the Opportunity

We’re partnering with a well-established and rapidly growing food company with a diverse national and international product portfolio. This organization operates at scale and takes regulatory compliance seriously — not as a box-checking function, but as a core risk management and brand protection strategy.

They’re seeking a Labeling Compliance Specialist who truly understands FDA and USDA labeling requirements and can confidently manage compliance across a high-volume, multi-category product portfolio. This is not an entry-level regulatory role. They need someone who can step in, own labeling compliance, identify risk before it becomes exposure, and drive projects forward cross-functionally.

If you’re detail-obsessed, regulatory-minded, and comfortable working with suppliers, marketing, QA, and procurement — this is a strong platform to deepen your impact in food compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Review, verify, and update product labels to ensure compliance with FDA 21 CFR, USDA, U.S. state laws, and imported food requirements
  • Ensure proper allergen declarations, ingredient statements, required disclosures, and category-specific labeling standards
  • Own regulatory-driven label updates related to ingredient changes, allergen updates, and evolving regulatory requirements
  • Execute large-scale label evaluations (flagged items, legacy SKUs, newly acquired products) and help reduce compliance backlog
  • Communicate directly with domestic and international suppliers to obtain, clarify, and correct documentation
  • Partner with QA, Marketing, Procurement, and Supplier Specialists to align on labeling updates and launch timelines
  • Assess regulatory risk, identify compliance gaps, and escalate issues to minimize recall and business risk
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and internal best practices for label review and compliance processes
  • Review marketing claims, branding language, and product statements to ensure they are compliant and supportable
  • Support new product launches, supplier onboarding, and additional regulatory projects as needed

What They’re Looking For

  • BS in Food Science or related field
  • 3+ years of direct experience with FDA (21 CFR) and USDA food labeling regulations
  • FDA food labeling certification
  • Strong working knowledge of allergen labeling, ingredient declarations, and regulatory disclosures
  • Experience working with food suppliers and/or imported food products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred

  • Experience with TraceGains, Genesis R&D, or similar systems
  • Knowledge of certification and claim requirements (Organic, Non-GMO, Halal, Kosher, etc.)
  • FSVP, PCQI, and/or HACCP certification

Why This Role Stands Ou t

This is a true ownership role — not just reviewing labels, but driving compliance strategy across a broad product mix. You’ll work in a fast-moving environment where regulatory precision protects brand integrity and supports growth. If you’re the type who spots compliance gaps others miss and takes initiative to fix them, you’ll thrive here.

Benefits

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life and Disability Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Parental Leave
  • Tuition Reimbursement
