POSITION TITLES: Criminal Justice (Open Rank: Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor)

REPORTS TO: Dean for the School of Business, Industry, and Career Programs

START DATE: Academic Year 2026-2027

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA with the ability to travel to all Bristol Locations (Attleboro, Taunton, New Bedford)

POSITOIN STATUS: This is a full-time, MCCC unit position with benefits.

SALARY: $57,289 - $74,369 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This faculty position resides within the School of Business, Industry, and Career programs and will be responsible for teaching a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) course schedule in the Criminal Justice programs (associate degrees, certificates, other credentials), including, but not limited to, those listed in our Academic Catalog. Courses may be held at our Fall River, New Bedford, Attleboro, and Taunton locations and/or in online/hybrid modalities as assigned. The full-time instructor will play a critical role in the teaching and learning process, contributing to student learning outcomes and overall success for the academic area and Bristol Community College.

ESSESNTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of courses in face-to-face, hybrid, online and other modalities as specified.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four office hours per week.
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
  • Attend program, department, academic area, all-college and committee/council meetings.
  • Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
  • Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, to teach online/hybrid/flex as needed, and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
  • Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
  • Incorporate High-Impact Practices (HIPs) into curricular and pedagogical approaches, with emphasis on HIPs that provide students with real-world experiences such as Community-based Learning and internship opportunities.
  • Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Actively participate in the general college community and fulfill duties as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Complete required training such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, and Information Security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Criminal Justice OR Juris Doctor degree with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership experience in the field of Criminal Justice.
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college/university level or equivalent experience related to instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience with online instruction and/or virtual training experience within a Learning Management System (i.e., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Demonstrated experience in curricular planning and assessment, as well as demonstrated use of innovative educational learning techniques and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven technological proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications and current A.I. tools (ChatGPT, Canva, NotebookLM etc.)
  • Able to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Criminal Justice preferred.
  • Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered in the Criminal Justice program, particularly introductory and upper-level courses.
  • Experience with recent trends in the field of Criminal Justice, such as, but not limited to, digital evidence and forensics, crisis intervention and behavioral health, data skills for public safety, droning and new technologies, restorative justice.
  • Experience in community college teaching, advising, and curriculum development.
  • Experience with and interest in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) applications and/or integration into instructional approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience working on academic or college committees and within teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing equity gaps.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Canvas, Banner, Argos, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate.
