The Substitute School Nurse provides short-term, day-to-day medical care and health support for students and employees in the absence of the full-time school nurse. This role ensures continuity of care, maintains a safe and healthy school environment, and upholds Antilles School’s standards for student wellness. The substitute nurse delivers direct healthcare services, administers medications as authorized, and maintains accurate health records while supporting the overall well-being of students from Toddler through Grade 12.

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide direct medical care, including first aid, emergency response, and basic illness management for students and employees during the school day.
• Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications in accordance with school policies and physician-signed parental consent forms.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation of student health visits, treatments, and incidents.
• Follow established protocols for managing medical emergencies, including contacting emergency services and notifying parents/guardians.
• Communicate promptly with families and administrators regarding significant health concerns or incidents.
• Support the safe storage and handling of medications and medical supplies.
• Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the School Nurse Office, ensuring compliance with infection control and safety standards.
• Provide guidance to staff regarding student health plans, allergies, and chronic medical conditions.
• Report communicable diseases or health incidents as required by territorial and school regulations.
• Serve as a key contact for medical needs during school hours, special events, or field trips as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) candidates may be considered with relevant experience.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (must be current).
• Experience in pediatric, school, or emergency response nursing preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a calm, caring demeanor.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively in urgent situations.
• High ethical standards with strong attention to confidentiality and detail.

Working Conditions:

• School setting with exposure to childhood illnesses and potential contact with communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens.
• Ability to walk, stand, or kneel for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or as scheduled for school-day coverage.
