Title: Proxy & Firewall Engineer

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Charlotte, NC 28278

Pay rate: $65 - $70/hr on W2

We are seeking one experienced Proxy & Firewall Engineer for a minimum 6?month engagement to support our enterprise network security environment . This role will focus on proxy and firewall technologies, traffic analysis, and correlation across external connections between us and third party entities.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands on experience with proxy/firewall platforms , deep Splunk and logging expertise , and the ability to analyze network traffic to improve security posture, visibility, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Traffic Analysis & Correlation

• Analyze external network traffic between us and third?party partners.
• Correlate network traffic with application behavior to identify patterns, risks, and anomalies.
• Use Splunk to analyze logs and support traffic correlation and investigation. Application & Traffic Flow Visibility
• Identify traffic flows and associate them with specific applications.
• Correlate Splunk data with router, proxy, and firewall activity to trace traffic from network devices through applications. Proxy & Firewall Support
• Support and optimize proxy and firewall platforms, including Fortinet and Bluecoat .
• Assist with troubleshooting, policy tuning, and security rule evaluation. Routing & Network Fundamentals
• Demonstrate a working understanding of routing and switching concepts.
• Troubleshoot routing issues and provide informed recommendations when needed. Architecture & Optimization
• Provide architectural recommendations based on traffic analysis and security findings.
• Identify opportunities to improve network design, performance, and security controls. Reconciliation & Tool Alignment
• Review and reconcile existing applications, tools, and security configurations.
• Recommend improvements or new solutions to enhance network efficiency and security. Threat Detection & Analysis
• Detect and correlate network activity to identify potential security threats.
• Leverage Splunk and related tools to support incident analysis and proactive monitoring. Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, application flows, and security controls.
• Produce reports on traffic patterns, findings, and optimization recommendations.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience with proxy and firewall technologies , specifically Fortinet and Bluecoat .
• Advanced proficiency in Splunk , including log analysis and traffic correlation.
• Familiarity with Skyhigh Web Gateway (formerly Trellix/McAfee).
• Working knowledge of Cisco and/or Arista configurations, including:
  • BGP
  • Static Routing
  • Prefix Lists
  • Route Maps
  • VPNs
  • Access Control Lists (ACLs)
• Solid understanding of routing and switching fundamentals.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently in a regulated enterprise environment as well as collaboratively within a team.
