Lead Electrical Designer

A growing manufacturer of critical power and electrical distribution equipment is seeking a Lead Electrical Designer to provide technical leadership for the design and development of electrical systems, switchgear assemblies, and control panel solutions. This role will serve as a senior design resource, leading complex projects, mentoring junior designers, and collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver high-quality solutions for mission-critical infrastructure applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of low-voltage switchgear assemblies, replacement breakers, and related power distribution equipment.

  • Create and oversee electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and detailed design documentation.

  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), wire lists, terminal block drawings, and other engineering deliverables.

  • Review and approve design packages to ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality expectations.

  • Serve as a technical resource for designers, engineers, manufacturing personnel, and project teams.

  • Mentor and support junior designers while promoting engineering best practices and design consistency.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes, documentation standards, and product manufacturability.

  • Lead engineering change order (ECO) activities and implement design enhancements to improve cost, quality, reliability, and production efficiency.

  • Collaborate with engineering, production, supply chain, and project management teams throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting design-related issues and providing technical guidance during production.

  • Maintain accurate revision control and project documentation.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design Technology, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical drafting and design, preferably within switchgear, power distribution, control panels, or related industries.

  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor.

  • Hands-on experience with panel building, electrical wiring, and manufacturing processes.

  • Knowledge of switchgear design, power distribution systems, and applicable standards including UL891 and UL1558.

  • Proven ability to lead projects and provide technical direction to team members.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to pass required background screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based environment with extended periods of computer and drawing review work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to access manufacturing and production areas as needed.

  • Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
